I would say the resources were stretched to the limit, and the staff did a remarkable job. Community groups also provided activities like bingo and music. It was sad to see so many residents who did not have anyone to visit them. When you walk into the Missouri Veteran's home, you don't feel like you are walking into a nursing home.

The thing I'll remember most about the Veteran's home was when a few of my grandfather's nurses came to his funeral. I was blown away by that, it's nice to know it's more than a job for some people. The staff was very professional and tried to give the residents personal attention. These workers were so busy and almost ran from room to room. My hat is off to them because they were not paid what they are worth! They had two doctors assigned to the entire place, and they only saw the most sick residents.
